Unhappy customers and Mobile Police show up at Mobile Rug and Shade. The home decor store on Airport Boulevard shut down last week.

Some customers who placed orders claim they didn't get their merchandise or money back. A lawyer representing the store says they shut their doors because business was bad and plan to file for bankruptcy.

Only our camera was there when customers walked in the unlocked doors to try and get some answers. Melanie Adkison says she saved up 1100 dollars to redo her kitchen. When she noticed that the front door was unlocked, she went inside.

It didn't take long for her to get kicked out and for police to get called. The police left without writing a report but Melanie is determined to get what's hers. In all the commotion, we didn't get a chance to talk to owner Devin Schaff but will keep trying.

This looks more crooked all the time.  Who is this new owner?  Is he originally from this area?  How did he finance the purchase of the business?

There’s a lot to be said for shopping at Lowes and other places where you can carry with you when you purchase…

James, if it was as innocent as you are claiming than the owner would have no problems with coming forth and correcting what the media and customers are accusing him of. I know that if someone was running their mouth about me and it was not true I would make it my business to put a stop to it and correct it real fast. You are right he has not come forth to explain the situation so we have not heard it from the horses mouth. However, actions speaks louder than words and this is great proof of that.

I personally know one of his “victims”.  He took a several thousand dollar deposit down on an order approx 3 weeks before he “closed”.  I don’t for one second think he ever had any intention of filling that order.  Sounds like intentional fraud to me.

The person I know has not been contacted by the owner or his attorney.  Obviously, the ladies on the news report have not been contacted either.

If the owner was genuinely trying to work this out, he (or his attorney) would have been returning some of the numerous messages I know were left on his business answering machine.

The only reason the media is invloved to begin with is due to his failure to communicate with customers he accepted deposits from.

Give him a chance to work this out?  How about he starts with a little upfront opne communication, instead of trying to sneak everything out the back door?

I can’t believe everyone that is judging Mobile Rug and Shade’s owners. I hope nobody goes through this themselves. The attorney said they are working with customers to try and fix all issues. As a customer, I have never seen this store as a scam. I do not believe he was taking money with the knowledge that he would not honor all sells. Give him the chance to work all this out before he is persecuted in the media.

I would be filing a law suit before he can file bankrupcy.

I do not feel sorry for this guy one bit. He is not handling this situation in the right way. This poor woman that is pregnant dropped all the money into something that she will likely now never see. To me this guy is scum. I have no sympathy for him. I know if it was me that was getting scammed I would have marched my happy butt in there too. Apparently he is hiding something or else he would not be avoiding making statements and explaining what is going on to these customers that most have been purchasing from the store for years. If I was the wife of this man I would be trying to do right be it and not enabling him to keep doing what he is doing. He stuff would be packed up on the side of the road in a heart beat. If I was his wife the customers would be the least of his worry, because I would have a few choice words and then some. None of these customers deserve what he is doing to them.

Say what Jack…????? You’ve got to be kidding….this guy has taken deposits and not delivered product, abruptly closed, made no attempt to inform customers of what’s going on, is trying to sneak assets out the back door, is stupid enough to leave the front door unlocked, shoves a customer out, and then gets the police called on him.  I’d say thats a good story ... way to go Tiffany!  The only thing not sensational was the pathetic comment his lawyer made about how he “plans” to file for bankruptcy. I’m sure he does…...after he’s finished working everyone over.  The guy is a thief…plain and simple .... I hope he does lose everything! Oh, and no Jack, I’m not worried about ever finding myself in a similar situatuion…why??? Because I’m not a thief!

His attorney has spoken for him and it did not make for the sensational news story that tiffany was after.

I would bet money those deposits never made it to the manufacturer, so they are under no contractual obligation.

Someone needs to get the IRS after this guy quickly and freeze his bank accounts before he skips out.
