The News 5 Investigative Team confirms that the Poarch Creek Indians bought Mobile Greyhound Park. Eddie Menton, the President of the Mobile County Racing Commission, confirms the purchase.

Menton says the tribe will own 65% of the track. The original owners will keep the remaining 35%.

Now, they must go through an application process with the commission to complete the deal. Menton tells us that the track in Theodore was struggling financially and believes the new owners will bring it back to life and save jobs.

The big question is what will they do with the place?

As you know, the Poarch Creek Indians own and operate Wind Creek Casino in Atmore. Menton says making the park on Old Pascagoula Road something bigger would require changing the law. "They could get a law passed to allow slot machines. Otherwise, there won't be any machines here. This will still continue to operate as a dog track." In addition, the track has live simulcast horse racing all over the country.

The CEO of Poarch Creek Indian Gaming isn't letting the cat out of the bag but we're expected to hear something about their plans as early as Sunday.

The tribe also purchased the Pensacola Greyhound Track!

i really enjoy going to the dog track ,it’s a nice change from the daily routine….If you are one of the residents of mobile county who has NEVER been to the dog track…GO one Matinee day for lunch or one nite for dinner..you don’t have to gamble…Get out and have some fun…..

TIP—- Stay with place and show tickets off the bottom of the program and you will usually win enough to pay for your meal with the tracks money ....

I’ve only been to the dog track a couple of times over the years.  At one time they had very good food.  A lot of the hard core gamblers that used to hang out there almost every night took off for Biloxi right after the first casino opened.  Almost killed the place the first year or so.

They don’t pay taxes or answer to the sheriff in Atmore because it is on the reservation, which is almost like a seperate state within a state.  Now at the dog track you can bet that won’t be the case.  It is not on reservation land.

We recently went to the dog track and had an enjoyable time there.Good food at a reasonable price and watched the dogs run and the chances of winning or breaking even is much better than at the casinos and believe me I’ve spent many an hour at the boats and still like them.Presently the dog track puts money back into the local economy and i don’t know how that would turn out since the Indians have bought most of it.

i have heard that a creek indian official said they would own the state of alabama in 5 years.  might be a good idea.  All the white people have done is let the blacks go wild.  i wonder if the creeks will do the same.

Atmore? We all know that Biloxi is the place to go.  I’ll take my money over there and help THEIR schoolchildren and local economy. How big again is the education budget shortfall? How many teachers are getting let go?  A more serious question… WHY ARE GAMBLING GENERATED TAX DOLLARS BANNED IN ALABAMA?

The Indians don’t pay taxes on most of there business and do not answer to the police or sheriff on their property. How will they change things if this happens?

you want to gamble? go to atmore it is as simple as that. nobody stopping you.

If you are against gambling…DONT GAMBLE.  Simple as that. Dont try to force your opinions on other people.

The climate of our country is not about doing the morally or ethically right thing, it is about the Almighty Dollar.  I predict that Mobile County will have electronic “Bingo” (aka, slot machines) within two years.  In today’s world, everything is about money, and people will let things slide if it will benefit them.  I also predict that within a month the “money for education” card will be played, in reference to more gambling in Mobile County.  And don’t forget, there is already gambling in Mobile County and it got here because of needing more money for education.  What has happened to all the money we are currently getting from gambling?  So, I conclude with a comment that I heard from England, where government officials are called “lords.”  “The lords giveth and the lords taketh away!”
