MONROEVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Fruit of the Loom Inc. says its Vanity
Fair Brands dye plant in Monroeville and its knitting plant in
Jackson will close Aug. 21.
The company announced plans a year ago to close its last
manufacturing operations in southwest Alabama sometime before the
end of 2009 because of increased global competition.
John Shivel, an executive at company headquarters in Bowling
Green, Ky., said the closing date was based on "operational
requirements."
The Monroeville plant has 141 employees, down from 180 a year
ago. The Jackson plant has 69 employees, down from 90. Vanity Fair
will continue to operate a distribution center in Monroeville,
which it expanded to 500 employees after closing of a warehouse in
Mission, Texas.
Shivel said he didn't know if laid off workers will be able to
work there.

Mobile’s population growth is about to increase as these unemployed Northern Mobile Co. residents head south in search of work.
Maybe a hint of a silver lining for Mobile in these stubborn economic times but at least there seems to be decent amount of new businesses hiring large amounts of new employees in our area.
Happy Memorial day everyone.
Remeber our fallen soldiers.
Thank Our Veterans and remember our Emergency Responders who work so hard to keep us safe everyday. I know I sure do….

Well that about does it for Monroeville seems that maybe Harper Lee can turn the lights out when she leaves…...........
