CENTRE, Ala. (AP) - A Centre businessman has died after thesingle-engine plane he was flying clipped a home and crashed.
Cherokee County EMA director Beverly Daniel said Harley McGatha
died early Sunday morning.
His plane crashed into a home near the Centre Municipal Airport
after it clipped a corner of the structure when taking off Saturday
afternoon.
A family was inside the house but none of the occupants were
injured.
McGatha was seriously injured and was taken to UAB Hospital's
burn unit.
Daniel said McGatha, president of Harley McGatha Construction,
kept his plane at the Centre airport and was a "very experienced
pilot."
