Call it a case of "pier" pressure. It looks like the new fishing pier at Gulf State Park is a big hit. It has only been open a week and folks there say they've easily had well over 15,000 visitors as of Saturday, July 25, 2009. The original pier was destroyed during Hurricane Ivan in 2004. This week state officials held a grand opening for the new pier last Thursday. Several of the fishermen say they love the new amenities there.

“I like it because it's longer, bigger, got more places to fish, not everybody's bunched up together,” says Orange Beach fisherman Jeff Taylor. The new pier cost more than $16 million dollars to build. It's nearly twice as long as its predecessor.
