HUNTSVILLE, Alabama - New federal statistics show Huntsville has the nation's most expensive airplane tickets.

A report from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics shows the
average domestic airfare for the north Alabama city cost $471 in
the second quarter of this year. That's $68 higher than the
second-place city, Grand Rapids, Mich.

Pensacola Gulf Coast Regional Airport has the 8th highest airfares in the country (average of $371.86)

Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is 68th (average $278.65)

Mobile Regional Airport was not part of the survey.

Atlantic City, N.J., had the lowest average cost for an airplane
ticket, at $185.

None of the prices include extra charges like bag fees. The
statistics are for one-way and round-trip tickets.

If Mobile would have been in the survey we would have ranked #1. Would have been a great addition to the “Mobile Hall of Shame” you know first giant useless Moon Pie and First City to annex an entire County.

Mobile certainly has to have some of the highest fairs…and some of the worst choices for non-stops of any airport on the Gulf Coast.

What were the parameters for the study? Was the size of the airport and general traffic part of the considerations. Im not sure the study was necessarily flawed but I am guessing the reporting was. At least in letting the public know what was actually considered so that we have the full picture.

If all airports are not part of this study, then the study is flawed!! I know for a fact that the Pensacola Airport is the lowest of all the area airports. Every time I travel by air I check the prices—- Pensacola Airport is always the cheapest for our area.
