More than a dozen Daphne Utilities customers have one week to pay up or their sewer service will be shut off. The utility company's general manager says 18 customers in the Park City and Belforest areas owe more than 23 thousand dollars in past due payments. The GM says the customers have been given at least 2 months notice and some of the bills are years overdue. Customers have until next week to get on a payment plan. If they don't, their sewer lines will be dug up and shut off, "we have issued 2 certified letters, we have sent out automated phone calls to everyone of the homeowners, we have put a door hanger on the front door of every affected home, we'll have another door hanger going out this week, and we will make one last effort literally at the front door before the backhoe digs into the ground," said Daphne Utilities General Manager, Rob McElroy. Having your sewer service turned off comes with a hefty price tag. On top of the money already owed, Daphne Utilities will charge the 2-grand it cost them to cap the line, plus a 75 dollar deposit.

AHHH! cutting down on their preparations at the treatment plant I would guess.A more or less invisible tax on all the users for the power and land used for the box.Never seen a pressurized system and just wondering how it worked.A check valve between the house and grinder would seem to be a necessity in case of a blocked line further down the line, which means further expense to the users.

they come and bury a big box in your yard they call a grinder that is hooked to your power and it prepares your sewearage to be introdiced into their pipes. when the power goes off it stops working.

Does a check valve work on the pressurized systems?I had one installed after Katrina because the flood waters backed all the lines up and into houses. What do you use a grinder for Claycity?

i am running city water, fairhope actually both at the farm and in point clear. still have wells for irrigation and the yards and other grey water things, although i believe its potable and treat it as such for campers etc. but prefer septic tanks three or four tanks at the farm, and two in point clear. but i have enough land, and the gray water is diverted in point clear, and its not like either get a lot of use. my main issue with pressurized was it backing up into your house and you having to pay a power bill for a grinder, and it still bing so expensive. not to mention purchasing the grinder.

Well I don’t guess our bill is outrageous according to that. This month was $57 for water sewage and garbage. The sewage is 80% of water bill,so if you use less water the cheaper your sewer bill is.I’ve seen shallow wells put in to reduce the water and sewer bill for things like washing clothes and cars, watering the lawns and such.I’ve been on both, wells and septic tanks and I really, really like the city water and sewage much, much better.

actually about 54 but buy the time you write the check its 60. i opted out to maintain septic. i have plenty of land and the cost of maintiaing septic, 2 dig outs in 30 uears, is far cheaper than sewer. not everyone is in this situation though but the cost seems excessive to me. fairhope is getting ready to go way up as well, both for pressureized sewer outside the city limits and for the old gravity system in side to like 38.oo or more targeting the same rate as bcss, a privatly run monopoly that sets its own rates. yeah, we got good honest goverment over here too.

HOLY SMOKES Clay. I thought our $19 was bad. It’s the water that kills you here- $35 and that’s having high efficiency appliances.

Sewer or septic it stinks. You still have to pay your bills. If your on septic and it has problems(and they do) you have to have it maintained.

Their sweage will back up in their house.  It will have nowhere else to go unless they install a septic tank.

So what are they gonna do not let them flush?
