Orange Beach is celebrating its 25th birthday!
"It's amazing in 25 years how far we've come and there's been a lot of adversity to overcome," says Mayor Tony Kennon.
Problems like hurricanes, financial challenges and political turmoil. Hurricane Ivan nearly destroyed the area, the city has struggled through at least two recessions and City Hall has seen its share of scandals.
"We're rebounding significantly and I think we'll continue to do that," says Ken Grimes, city manager.
A lot has changed here over the 25 years and since the early 20th Century when the area was a quiet, fishing and farming community. Orange Beach is now a major beach vacation destination.
The city will hold a birthday bash block party Saturday at City Hall from 11am to 4pm. There will be plenty of food, fun, entertainment and things for the kids to enjoy...as well as historical displays about the city.
