It's Palm Sunday and a day of unity for many Christians in Mobile. The group "Opportunity For Unity" held its third annual concert of prayer tonight. OFU is a network of Mobile churches. The group took time to sing, and pray for the city, nation and community. Organizers say they try to bridge racial and denominational differences through a common faith and love.

“The love of Jesus is what brings us together, that's how we bridge the gap,” says Living Word Christian Center Bishop Levy Knox. “When we begin to see one another as Christ sees us, it's through the love of Jesus Christ.”

Bishop Knox says they're working to bring diverse people together. About 1,500 people attended the Sunday evening service.

Opportunity For Unity 2009 was a monumental moment in the Presence of God. The turnout was unprecedented and it was by far the best OFU yet! I was honored to be apart of the vision that God has placed in the heart of Bishop Levy H.Knox and the OFU Pastors. For so long, the church and the city have been divided because of racial boundaries when the same blood runs in all of our veins and the same Blood covers us all giving us the gift of everlasting life. There is no color or race in God’s Kingdom. There is no division or discrimination in God’s Kingdom. In His Kingdom, there is love for all of His people. In His Kingdom, there is peace, joy, and righteousness. OFU is about releasing God’s Kingdom that our community will be changed and reflect the Image, Character, and Heartbeat of God. OFU is about worshiping One and loving all. We all have a significant and vital part in bridging the divides. God bless all of you and I hope to see you in 2010 unified under the Banner of Christ!

I am so glad that I was able to attend the Concert of Prayer for OFU.  This was my second time to be able to attend and it was even better than last year.  There was such excitment in the air, I really felt the Lords presence, woo hoo!  The worship was awesome!  I loved holding hands with people I didn’t even know who are my brothers and sisters and praying for one another, and our city and surronding area, very powerful.  I am so glad that we have Pastors, leaders who are passionate about God and His Kingdom and seeing him transform our region one heart at a time. What a beautiful site to see so many pastors from so many different backgrounds coming together under one banner—Christ!  I look forward to next years Concert of Prayer!

The Concert of Prayer for OFU gets better every year. I look forward to this event all year.
This year,as always, I was hugely blessed.
I love the Worship time. I love hearing from the different pastors but the most wonderful thing of all is when we stop and pray with someone we don’t know.
This is such a God Thing, that you have to experience it to really get it. That room is so full of love that you instantly love and feel loved by everybody with the love of Christ. I was prayed for by a lovely woman of God of a different race. She not only prayed for me but spoke over me and prophesied over me and I knew it was God!!!! I love that woman of God who just overflowed with Jesus! I always feel sad about us parting.
Can’t wait to for next year’s event. I feel God is so Excited and Happy about this also!!

I so agree with Pastor Stephen. It is an honor to walk with my friends in OFU as we seek to be agents of the life-changing love of God. Worship styles and opinions may differ in the Body of Christ, but it is still the love we have for one another that shows the world that we follow Jesus. Many thanks to everyone who took part in this ground-breaking, city-shaking event!

All for the Kingdom!

Thanks to everyone who has commented here, and especially to those who were at the Opportunity for Unity “Concert of Prayer” gathering on Sunday evening.  The purpose of our gathering was to glorify God and be in obedience to His command that we be united together in love at the foot of Christ’s Cross.  We wanted to make a statement to our region that we are committed to tearing down any barriers that prevent us from loving one another and funtioning together as a spiritual family on the Gulf Coast.  We’ve got a long way to go - we come from many different backgrounds - but we are all hearing a sound from heaven ... confirmed in the Bible ... that God will pour out His blessings in and through His followers as we join our hearts together with His heart and with one another.  These blessings from God in turn motivate us to bring blessing to our city and region.  This is a work in progress ... but it’s a wonderful process to be a part of.  Visit us at http://www.ofunetwork.com to learn more!

You can’t even talk unity in this sin sick city
unless yu include Mardi Gras, the most segregated
social phenomenon still in existence today. If this much segregation existed in any other venue of life,
there would be riots in the streets and the city burned. And the cool thing is, both sides are guilty-whites and blacks. The attitude is-it’s our party, leave us alone! We don’t wanna change!

I believe it was Billy Graham who once stated, the most segregated hour is on Sunday mornings with diverse denominations, cultures and worship styles.  It was Jesus that prayed, “May they be One as You and I are One”.  What an Opportunity for Unity as we enter this Holy week in responding a big Yes & Amen to Jesus’ prayer in being united “rich in diversity yet unified under the banner of Christ”. I believe that’s what the program of OFU stated. It was a tremendous time seeing, hearing and experiecing such diverse praise, prayers, litergy, denominations, cultures, generations young and seasoned, coming together in “com-union”.
I am so looking forward to ALL of us once again being integrated as ONE in 2010! May the resurrection of the risen Christ be revealed and represented as we continue to comment. God Bless these men of God as the Bishop, Pastors and leaders who lay their differences down gathering as One, bringing diverse congregations together as One on Sunday! Yes & Amen!
