A collision between an asphalt truck and wine truck closed the Cochrane Causeway from the Bankhead Tunnel to the Cochrane-Africatown Bridge for three hours Wednesday night. Steve Huffman with Mobile-Fire rescue says a wine truck ran into the back of an asphalt truck which was turning into Gulf Coast Asphalt.
The driver of the wine truck, a 46 year old man, suffered serious injuries to his chest and pelvis. He was transported to the hospital.
The asphalt truck was carrying 5-6,000 gallons. Approximately 500 gallons spilled into a nearby canal. The Coast Guard was called in to help clean it up.
One lane will remained closed until 5:00 a.m. Thursday morning.
