Obama Set To Sign Bill Named After Alabama Woman

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama is acting quickly to
strike a blow for equal pay.
He'll sign a bill today that is popular with labor and women's
groups and is expected to make it easier for workers to sue for
decades-old discrimination.
When signed into law, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act will effectively end a 2007 Supreme Court decision that said workers had
only 180 days to file a pay-discrimination lawsuit.
The bill passed earlier in the week. The law extends the 180-day
statute of limitations every time a new, discriminatory paycheck is
issued.
The law is named for Ledbettter who said she didn't become aware
of a pay discrepancy until she neared the end of her 19-year career
at a Goodyear Tire & Rubber plant in Gadsden.
