No Trial For Baby Killing Mom

The Prichard mom accused of throwing her baby in the garbage two years ago won't be going to trial.

18-year old Tyese Lewis was charged with capital murder for the death of her baby girl in July 2007.

At first, Lewis claimed that little Zarial was kidnapped by a phony adoption agency. Then, she confessed to putting her 4-week old in a plastic bag and leaving her in the closet. After some time, court records say that she tried to revive her baby but it didn't work.

Lewis reportedly tossed the bag in the garbage that was picked up days later. Zarial's tiny body was never found in the landfill where the garbage was dumped.

In early court appearances, Lewis pleaded not guilty and was expected to go to trial at the end of August 2009. On Wednesday, Lewis pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of murder.

Prosecutor Jill Phillips says the state was never going after the death penalty and the plea change means an automatic conviction. "She's looking at a minimum of ten years in prison up to life in prison with that guilty plea."

Lewis will be sentenced in November.

I say, let’s stuff her in a garbage bag and throw her away like the trash she is. In a situation like this, there should be an automatic hysterectomy clause to prevent any future children. An eye for an eye. I personally have zero tolerance for such crimes as this.

I really don’t understand why they didn’t go after the death penalty. Was it because the baby was never found? I PRAY she gets life with no possibility of parole. I don’t mind my tax dollars keeping this trash in jail FOREVER,and hope the “big girls” will bring her down a few notches. There are too many people out there that would take and love ANY baby, for someone to even do this.
