More police officers are now patrolling the streets of Mobile. The Department graduated 31 officers Wednesday afternoon. They completed 14 weeks of training in the Police Academy.

Mobile Police Chief Phillip Garrett congratulated the officers adn told them they are needed now more than ever.

The training isn't over for the new officers. They will no go through 12 weeks of field training. That means they will be paired up with a patrol officer.

I hope the MPD keeps these officers (and the rest) under control. They currently run the streets like unchained dogs. I believe that MPD officers commit more traffic offenses than the general population.

After the 12 weeks, I hope they learn where the safe places are to sleep in their patrol cars.

I’ve seen a couple of times in the past where a graduate of the academy wasn’t old enough to carry a gun while on duty with the force, and I see where a lot of cities are taking older applicants for the job.congratulations to all 31 new officers and may they all stay with the department,to help pay for the 14 weeks of academy training and 12 weeks of field training.
