TROY, Ala. (AP) - A new law designed to encourage more recycling
in Alabama took effect Oct. 1. The state environmental agency
celebrated the new law Friday by taking several elected officials
on a tour of a plastics recycling plant in Troy.
The director of the Alabama Department of Environmental
Management, Trey Glenn, says increasing recycling opportunities
will lead to a cleaner Alabama.
The new law levies a $1 per ton fee on waste disposed at
landfills in Alabama. The fee is supposed to generate more than $7
million annually. It will be used to clean up illegal dumps on
private property, inspect legal landfills and expand recycling
programs to reduce the waste going to landfills.

there are quite a few states that Require Residential Recycling by law if you don’t recycle you get fined.

The city of Mobile and allot of other Alabama communities don’t offer city wide recycling programs. Shame.

Although this law is a good step.. we are still way way behind most of the other states.
