MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Bradley Byrne has resigned as chancellor
of Alabama's two-year college system, and the state school board
has named general counsel Joan Davis as interim chancellor.
Byrne's resignation was to become effective on Aug. 31, but he
offered his resignation Thursday, one day after he announced a
Republican campaign for governor.
The state board of education accepted his resignation at its
Thursday meeting and named Davis to oversee the system until a
permanent choice is made.
