GULF SHORES, Alabama - Ken Carter co-owns the Homeport Marina in Gulf Shores, the site of the world-famous Lulu's Bar and Grill. Carter wants to build a multi-million dollar luxury hotel and conference center there and has asked the city council to approve a re-zoning request to accommodate the much needed facility.
"After Ivan took out the state park convention center, we don't have a real good place," says Carter. "It's a win-win for everyone."
Carter has approached several Florida developers he hopes will invest in the 50 million dollar project. If approved, the project would create hundreds of temporary jobs and dozens of full time positions.
"It'd bring hotel staffing, convention staffing and then the construction of course, that's a two year process," says Carter.
Carter says there are also plans to build three new restaurants and provide boat ferry service to the casinos in Biloxi on Mississippi's Coast.
The Gulf Shores City Council could approve preliminary plans next month.
