Alabama's "God Bless America" license plate will stick around an extra two years.

State law requires license plates be replaced every five years. The “God Bless America” license plate was schedule to be redesigned in 2011. But Governor Bob Riley signed a proclamation delaying the plate’s redesign until 2013.

The move will save the state from having to spend $2.5 million next year.

“State government should always be on the look out for ways to avoid unnecessary costs, and this is certainly one of them,” said Governor Riley. “This $2.5 million in savings won’t solve the state’s budget problems, but it will help. We must make every effort to eliminate unnecessary spending.”

This just makes me mad. This tag doesn’t cost extra. Why are we spending money on having a choice of two tags?? If you want God to Bless America, how about cutting some spending? The love of money is the root of all evil, according to the good word.

If you’re so patriotic that you HAVE to have this tag instead of the STARS FELL ON tag…then pay $50 for a specialty plate that will donate some money to an actual charity!

What? That makes sense! Wow!
