CHUNCHULA, Alabama - People who live along Highway 45 in Chunchula are speaking out about the brutal beating of an 85 year old man in his front yard.
It happened in broad daylight Wednesday in the front yard of a home in the 6000 block of Highway 45.
The victim was beaten, robbed and possibly shot.
89 year old Eloise Gunter lives down the street from where 85 year old Warren Hamilton was attacked.
She said, "I just didn't know what to think. I said, 'Somebody's in trouble and it's the poor old man who lives there by himself.' "
Mobile County Sheriff's Deputies said the victim was in his front yard when an SUV pulled up, a man got out and, according to Corporal Chris McLean, "produced a weapon, and struck him in the head several times, knocking the victim to the ground. At that time, the suspect threatened to kill the victim and advised him that he wanted his money. The suspect then took the victim's wallet and fled the scene."
Deputies also said the suspect fired one shot, but Hamilton was beaten so badly that they couldn't tell if he was wounded.
Gunter said of Hamilton, "He was a real nice guy. He stayed right at home tending to his own business and everything and then, that happened to him. It just breaks your heart, I tell you it does."
Deputies said the beating happened in a driveway area.
But they also said one thing that might help solve this crime is that Highway 45 right there is a very heavily travelled road.
McLean said, "Somebody was behind this vehicle, prior to and after the robbery, so we would ask that people jog their memory think about it."
Gunter said, "We don't ever have anything like that, but, you know something? Everybody and everything is getting meaner as the days go by. They're getting meaner and meaner."
Officials at USA Medical Center said Hamilton is in stable condition.
Deputies describe the man who beat the victim as black, 5'8, with a thin build, wearing black clothing and a white visor.
They said he was a passenger in a dark colored SUV.

I think it’ll be just fine ick. I can maybe “borrow” one of the riot guns if that would help improve your shot. AR 15, I think. Or perhaps….I can sweet talk my way into “checking out” some of those confiscated weapons.lol Hmmm-deep sea fishing. Chumming? Such evil thoughts here.

Me too,lovepeace-as far as having a soft spot for the elderly (unless it is public exposure,of course). You just don’t hurt the elderly or children. I’ll have to go all redneck AND ghetto on someone.lol

i wonder if my hunting buddies would think i lost it if i used buck shot of hunting birds?

No rm, I’ve got a major soft spot for the elderly.  I am in.

Ick, maybe you can also take him deep sea fishing.  Just be careful.  Accidents do happen at sea.

You can take him bird hunting, but he may not need bail if we find him first.lol

i’ll post his bail and take him bird hunting in south texas!

OK-but I’m getting in some Tae-Bo kicks and sucker punches too! Yee-oww! Ya’ll got me covered on this one right? No brutality talk, and seconding guessing, sideline quarter-backing, right?

Sigh… Ok, ok.  You can tase him.  You can also take care of the pistol whuppin.’  You’ll be the weapons expert in this outfit.  I want to fight him with my bare hands and kick the everloving beep-beep-beep out of him.

Gosh, this has been haunting me all day. Poor man! I get that it’s apparently too much to ask people not to rob an 85 year old, but why they gotta beat him up too?  If you insist on picking on the elderly, just flash the gun, take his wallet, and go.

They will spill on each other eventually (or their friends will). I did hear that the man may have had a bit of cash on him-so like Bamabob said,it may have been a “crime of opportunity.” Regardless though, LEAVE the old people alone THUGS! But, if we can find them, can I Puh-leeze bring a taser????? Please, please, please????lol smile

85? I’m with you rm.  After reading this, I’m somewhat overcome by an urge to inflict some serious damage on this guy.  Tell your LE friends to just find him for us, and we’ll take care of this one ourselves.  cool mad

Weren’t the elderly couple coming out of a store and attacked in a parking lot?  Kind of a crime of opportunity?  It would take special effort to actually go to this old man’s house and beat him down in his yard.  Someone thought the old guy carried some cash around and targeted him.
