Tragedy has struck a small Washington County community.

Three children died Friday morning when a fast moving fire ripped through their home on John Johnston Road in Charity Chapel.

Christy Nelson, 9, David Nelson, 11, and Colton Mosley, 11, were all asleep upstairs when the fire started around 3 a.m.

A fourth child, Dylan Mosley, 9, managed to escape along with his mom, Virginia Nelson, and his step-father, David Nelson.

A neighbor says David Nelson tried to save the other three children, but the fire spread too fast.

"The father tried to go up there," says Melissa Simpson, who is also a volunteer fire fighter. "He just couldn't get them."

Children at Fruitdale School tried to cope with the loss of their friends. The school organized a balloon release in memory of the kids.

Investigators believe a heater caused the fire, but state fire marshals say the evidence is inconclusive. Nonetheless, Washington County Sheriff Richard Stringer says it is clear to him the fire was an accident.

To be honest almost all paper now is made from trees that were grown like any other crop, just to be harvested.  And yes, balloons are dangerous for wildlife especially when they make it into the gulf or ocean.  Sea turtles in particular like to munch on them.

I made my point!! It’s was uncalled for and just plain RUDE!

Newspapers are made from recycled paper, silly!

KxVicious choose your battles. I’ll make sure when you die that you won’t be in the obituaries since paper is made from trees that have to be cut down, no one comes to your funeral/memorial because cars produce harmful fumes to our atmosphere. Some opinions need to be kept to yourself! What you said was totally disrespectful.

“The school organized a balloon release in memory of the kids.”

Please don’t ruin our environment because these people died.
Those balloons don’t just magically disappear. They end up killing animals that mistake them for food.

This is a tragedy beyond words.  I am so sorry for the loss of these 3 beautiful young children.  I cannot imagine the horror these parents must feel.

The family greatly appreciates all of your loving prayers and support.
I would like to aknowledge the mother of the two children David and Kristy Nelson. The mother’s name is Candace Nelson-Fuller.
Our family is shocked at the sudden loss of such beautiful children. Please continue to put the family in your prayers.
Thank you,
Jessica Brito-Fuller
niece to Candace Fuller and cousin to David and Kristy
