Alabama State Troopers say the need for speed is a growing problem. Troopers made a major bust Sunday on the I-10 Bayway. 12 motorcyclists were arrested after authorities say they were clocked doing more than 140 miles an hour on I-10 West. A road block was set up on the Bayway and the motorcyclists were taken to the Baldwin County Jail while their bikes were hauled away. State Trooper spokesman, Cpl. Joe Piggott, says high performance bikes at high speeds are nothing new but they're seeing more of it, "we receive calls on a fairly regular basis on those sport bikes. They lend themselves to speed. They're designed for speed, there again its not unlike a high performance car, you know, its not illegal to have them but obviously its illegal to put them on the highway and then drive it in a reckless manner," said Piggott. One of the bikers arrested Sunday told us they're part of a motorcycle club called the Pacesetters and they were on their way to a charity event in Mobile. We called the Pacesetter chapters in Mobile and Pensacola Monday but neither wanted to make a comment.

It’s called damage control. It’s like getting caught with your hand in the cookie jar. What can you say in your defense with out looking foolish ?

I thought the rider they interviewed was very nice about the situation, well-spoken. I hope he represents them better than the wife doing all the whining.  Great idea about some type of exhibition fund raising event- Legal.

Anybody can do a buck forty in a straight line! Wonder how they ride in the corners? My guess, slower than a school bus. Lowered with stretch swingarms swung smooth out the back door.
Getting to be a rather expensive hobby. Huh? Maybe next time they could use the drag strip for the benefit. That would be a huge turn out and raise more money for the cause. It would certainly be safer!

Glad to have to sit in the traffic for a speeding stop of the motorcycles better that having to be in a long line and see that someone has wrecked and laying on the road with a sheet covering them.  Or a family having to deal with hitting a rider for changing lanes driving to fast.  So you choose which is better. Glad for the Police for doing their Jobs.Keep up the GOOD work guys.

Kudos to the cyclists who were doing a charitable thing but that does not excuse them from obeying the laws that each of us have to follow.  I must say the gentleman who was interviewed took the situation in stride and I admire him for taking it on the chin (in a matter of speaking).  Having had 2 friends of mine, both officers, involved in accidents chasing these type of bikes I support the troopers in stopping and hauling these bikers to jail.  I am sure there are some that maybe were innocent and maybe didn’t deserve being arrested but “we are known by those whom we associate.”  And sometimes our associates get our butts in a bind.  Again, KUDOS to the AHP and to the PACESETTERS, keep up the good work, but just don’t put your life and mine in danger in the name of charity.

Guess the Pacesetters are REAL supportive of their Rogue members.
