TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - The NCAA has placed Alabama's football
program and 15 other of the school's athletic teams on three years
probation for major violations due to misuse of free textbooks.
The NCAA's Committee on Infractions said Thursday the football
team must forfeit an unspecified number of wins in which any of
seven players took part during 2005-2007. The university identified
the seven as "intentional wrongdoers."
The NCAA said that 201 student-athletes in the 16 sports,
including men's basketball, obtained "impermissible benefits" by
using their scholarships to obtain free textbooks for other
students. It also found the university guilty of "failure to
monitor."
The university was ordered to pay a $43,900 fine.

Hey, wake up!! What ever happened to individuals taking responsibility for their own actions? The “intentional violators” were punished. The fact is most of the athletes knew nothing of the scam. Only a few individuals were abusing the system. I would bet that nobody in authority knew anything about this. I think cheating and stealing are common at campuses all over the country. What benefit did the athletic program receive because of the textbook theft? I think it is imminently unfair to punish the entire athletic dept. for the actions of a few!

??? Really…What does that post mean? These were students abusing the rules, not management. They’re not in the business to “babysit” these kids. The students are expected to be somewhat mature by college age. Expel them, not put the whole program on probation.

???

Will alabama ever learn? It does’t seem so, the violations have been going on since the 90’s thats why we can’t get to the bowl games or get the recruits needed to win. Some one should be fired! It’s bad enough that we can expect some darn good players to be lost during the season to drug use and other crimes, but it seems we still have to deal with management cheating the NCAA rules. Is this what they teach at Alabama? Do you major in cheating, stealing and drug dealing? What’s gonig on at that University?
