A Mobile County high school has received an award from a national magazine.
Vigor High School has been cited by U.S. News & World Report Magazine in its second annual list of "America's Best High Schools."
The Prichard school was honored for student performance on standardized tests, factoring in the percentage of economically disadvantaged students.
Vigor Principal William Smith said, "We don't have the financial resources that a lot of the schools have, and it makes it tough on our students."
Vigor was one of fewer than two thousand public high schools around the country to receive the honor.
It's also the second year in a row Vigor has won the award.
Vigor Student Caroline Carl said, "Vigor doesn't have a lot of students compared to the other schools like Davidson and Murphy, but I think we're doing pretty well. I'm very happy we got this award."
Another Vigor student, Trenton Morales, said, "When you walk through these hallways, you see how close knit these friends are. We're like a family."
But schools in economically disadvantaged areas can't always reward students like other schools do, whether in athletics or academics.
Principal Smith said, "We're looking at trying to get some nice jackets, that say 'Vigor' across the front for at least the seniors and maybe the football team if we can get the funds, but we are asking for some help."
Anyone wanting to help can contact the school.
