Three children were home at the time.
Police say the two women are 26 year old Maria Teresa Hernandez Reyes and 22 year old Yesenia Bustos Gaonia.
The shooting happened about 12:30 Thursday afternoon at 206 Page Avenue.
Police believe the children belong to two couples, husband and wife, who live at the home.
Mobile County District Attorney John Tyson said, "The oldest one might be three. The youngest one might be six months."
They were not hurt.
Tyson also said, "We have apparently mothers murdered in the presence of their children. The children are not old enough to talk, to tell us what happened."
Shari Rupe and her daughter live across the street.
Rupe said, "When we came home from the store, we heard the baby crying on the porch in the seat and my 13 year old daughter and I went to check."
Tyson said, "Everybody describes these women as being very pleasant."
Leontine West, another neighbor, said of the women, "You didn't see any disturbance and 'no coming and going,' no more than getting the kids out of the car, or getting her groceries."
Bags of what appeared to be groceries still sat on the front porch.
Rupe said, "My daughter, the 13 year old, is the one that opened the door and found the two women. We could see the other baby in the window crying. I was scared to go in, though."
When asked if her daughter could tell what kind of condition the women were in, Rupe said, "No, she didn't know. She said, 'Mommy, you have to check. I don't know if they're dead or if they're alive.' She said, 'I can't go in there.' "
Across from the street from the home where the shootings happened, there is a cellular phone business about a half a block down.
And there are security cameras mounted on the outside of the building.
The owner of the business said police took video from the cameras, but all the video showed was the store parking lot.
There are no arrests as of yet in the case and police haven't released a motive.
