MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A federal judge inMobile has sentenced a man to life imprisonment after he exposed
himself to a boy in a Mississippi park. The judge cited the
defendant's two previous convictions for sex crimes against
children.
While indecent exposure sometimes is prosecuted as a misdemeanor
crime, U.S. District Judge Ginny Granade ruled Wednesday that the
life term was automatic for 46-year-old Michael Ryan South because
of his record.
Jurors convicted South in May on a felony charge of attempting
to lure a 9-year-old boy for sex. The judge rejected defense
arguments that a life sentence without the chance for parole was
cruel and unusual punishment.
