Are you looking for some help in the kitchen? Some local kids are learning skills to be great help to Mom and Dad during dinner time. They are taking part in cooking camp at Bayside Dinners in Mobile. In just a week of cooking camp, they are learning a variety of meals to serve at home. Twins, Amanda and Jessica Montgomery, love being in the kitchen. Amanda says, "I liked mixing all the stuff together and getting to make our aprons and stuff." Jessica also loves cooking "I like to cook, and I cook with my grandmother. I know how to do it and its really fun."Bayside Dinners, owner, Robin Lea is a former teacher who has transferred her love for teaching into the kitchen. "What we are trying to do is teach children the joy of cooking so they will go home and cook. It's been shown that in families that eat together, children have higher grades." She says the students are also learning important etiquette tips...things they might not learn in a classroom. "They learn how to formally set a table, they learn how to formally eat.. They learn manners, like who should be seated first, what to do in a restaurant, what you should do at home, why men should open doors for women."
There are still some openings for cooking camp classes on Saturdays. There are even cooking classes for adults.
Bayside Dinners is located at 5212 Cottage Hill Road.
