Mother and Son Burned

Alabama Fairhope A Baldwin County mother and son are recovering in separate hospitals after a house fire in Barnwell.

Picking up the pieces, it seems the Lacoste family has been doing that a lot lately. This time it's because of a fire that started in a bedroom and that would have been bad enough except it got worse according to Brian Lacoste. "The oldest child, which is eight, came and got Tricia, which is the mother, and said the youngest child is on fire in the bedroom."
Tricia Lacoste ran to the master bedroom and found her youngest, three year old Jaden.
"She went into the bedroom and got him out and that's how she got burned," says Tricia's brother-in-law. "She got burned on her right arm and her right foot, second and third degree burns and he's got burns on both of his arms and both of his legs and some on his face which are second and third degree."
Like a lot of families the Lacoste family has had their struggles, with the economy and with health issues. But, things had started to turn around and about three months ago they moved into the Barnwell home as a Christmas gift to the family.
"Anthony has been unemployed and just recently gotten back to work," says his pastor, Tim Patrick of Faith Baptist Church. "He has recently had a couple of surgeries, in the last six months, and that hit them. They were just beginning to get over that when this fire hit."
While friends and family take care of what's left of the home and the other three children, Tricia is in the burn unit at USA Medical Center. Jaden is at Children's Hospital in Birmingham.
"It's a day by day thing. They don't know when they are going to do the skin grafts on either one of them or how long they are going to be in the hospital," says Lacoste.
Something else a young family will have to overcome that seems to have already been through so much.
