Janet Turner and her nine-year-old son Alex can breathe a sigh of relief today. "Luckily we're all ok, just banged up a little bit," Said Turner. But yesterday afternoon turned into a nightmare, when their apartment building burst into flames. "Black smoke just rolled into the apartment and he just started screaming we're going to die I don't want to die..and I told him run to the back,"Said Turner. She quickly sprang into action and chose her son's bedroom window as their escape route and that's where she says the two of them jumped out of the second story window. After seeing the damage done to their apartment, Janet says it was worth the swollen ankle she now has to nurse. Had she stuck around to try and find her pet Yorkie she says it could've been worse. But thanks to the Mobile Fire Department, the family dog was rescued. Colony Park Apartments is providing a temporary place to stay for the Turners and six other families at a nearby hotel. Mobile Fire tells us while the cause of the fire is still under investigation four apartments were damaged. The Turners tell us they're not too worried because their insurance will cover the loss.
