Gulf Shores police do not plan to charge a mother accused of leaving her 3 month old baby in a car while she went inside a store Thursday.

The Department of Human Resources reviewed the case and determined the mother accidently left the infant in the car while she went inside Target on Highway 59 in Gulf Shores," according to Detective Tim Knight of the Gulf Shores Police Department.

The baby was discovered by someone walking into the store. Details of how the infant was rescued are still unclear, but Deputy Chief Keith Martin of Gulf Shores Fire Rescue says an unidentified shopper called 911.

Martin says paramedics who were on the scene were told the baby was initially unresponsive, but by the time the infant was transported to the hospital the baby was responding normally.

The name of the mother is not being released.

KxVicious two of my problems are, the glorifying of a child-molester, and our ever-declining society!

how does a mother forget her baby’s in the car, what a crock!  She should be arrested and charged.  How much did it cost her to get out of this one?

teddy, what is your problem?

hey, did anyone hear Michael Jackson died? yeah, that was what 2 weeks ago? can we put him in the ground and move on with our ever-declining culture?

The facts as presented by Ms. Taloney:

1. A passerby notices the child in the car.
2. A shopper calls 911
3. Paramedics are told the child was initially unresponsive.
4. Child is transported to the hospital and found to be responsive.
5. DHR reviews the case and has determined it was an accident.

The lady is lucky to have gotten a pass on this. I hope we don’t read about her or the child at a later date…

Thank you ChaplainRick- for your honesty regarding the unfair and unjust behavior in which some of our LOCAL law enforcement chooses to behave. Without good cops like you standing up for what is right, and speaking on what is wrong, most civilians would be led to believe that ALL LE behaves this way, because we all see it happening too. Some people on this site with LE affiliations downright refuse to believe and admit that some of our very own are blatantly disregarding the code of ethics the were sworn to uphold, when we all know that it is.

She “forgot”.  And the officer “forgot” to arrest her.  Wow - one sided law here.  You don’t forget that a child is in the car.  How lame is that excuse.

Yeah, I don’t want to beat this to death any further but I do want to clear the air about something.
A lot of people have said that child services didn’t prosecute or do their job and I tried to explain in my earlier post that child service does not make the decision in this case.
The police make the decision to arrest or not to arrest based on PC and more than likely a supervisor, ie. Sgt, LT. or Capt was called to the scene, discussed the matter with the officer and the mother and then let her slide.

Child services gets involved only when a hospital, teacher, business, healthcare provider or citizen calls their office with a tip of child abuse or child neglect. Then they must investigate and determine if the abuse or neglect rises to the level of a criminal offense and if not they will handle the case internally with supervised visits or temporary placement of the child etc.

The police dept dropped the ball here because of circumstances that we will never know. Calling a detective won’t get you anywhere but maybe a letter to the chief, mayor and media will.

I saw a situation last year on the beach. A grown man and 2 teens were drinking beer when police rolled up. The cops arrested the teens and let the guy who supplied the beer drive away. WHY?
The guy called the officer by name so he obviously knew the officer someway, somehow and the officer cut him a break.

It’s not fair but it is how the law works. Police can pick and choose who they arrest in most cases.

TYVM for the info. I thought perhaps not naming the parent had something to do with files concerning juveniles.
