The Blessing of the Fleet is one of the best ways to sample Bayou La Batre. The two day festival draws to its climax with the traditional blessing. However, there’s a lot more going on. In the video I’ve put together a little montage of a gumbo cook off and video from an oyster shucking contest. The event also offers some great seafood. I feel stuffed just thinking about it. The folks at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church were very hospitable. I’d like to give them a special thank-you for making my first Blessing of the Fleet a special one. One of the volunteers said they believed they had more boats this year due to a drop in fuel prices.
