Mobile County School Board member Judy Stout tells News 5 that 219 teachers were appointed at Thursday night's meeting. Some of those are teachers who received pink slips back in May.
The rest are new teachers.
The Mobile County School Board also approved jobs for 134 staff members for schools.
More teachers could be hired next week. A special board meeting has been called for next Thursday to address more rehires.

Board members also voted to change its student drug testing program. It's slated to begin this school year.
Citronelle High School has been added to the list. The school joins
Theodore High School and Vigor High School.
Burns Middle School and Denton Middle School have been taken out of the program.
The drug testing affects students who participate in extracurricular activities, drive vehicles on campus, or whose parents voluntarily sign them up.

The halls of Shaw High School in Mobile will not be empty this school year.
Board members approved the idea to lease Shaw for 12 months to ThyssenKrupp Steel. The company will use the closed down school to train workers while the steel mill is under construction.
The Mobile County Public School System will collect $1,600 a month.

They have not hired all teachers back. What a crock. Also.. custodians are limited as well as librarians and counselors.  EVery school needs a full time librarian!!!!! End of story. Schools are suffering from the cutback! We lost valuable assets to our school this year.

Sort of seems like they are firing these poor teachers each year so that they will never have tenure.
