President Elect Barack Obama's inauguration is slated to be a monumental moment in U.S. history.
Some of the greatest musicians of our time will gather for the gala including an up and coming soul singer from Mobile.
Sergio Davis has played hundreds of gigs for over 20 years, but the opportunity to play for President Elect Barack Obama is something he never imagined.
"I'm very honored, I'm more excited than anything. It's like winning the lottery or anything..it's better than American Idol!,"Said Davis.
During one of Davis' shows an Obama committee member invited the soul singer to Washington D.C. for the Inaugural Ball.
While Obama's inauguration will make history as the first African-American President of the United States, so will Davis, as the first Southern Soul artist to ever grace the stage at a presidential inauguration.
If you'd like to see Sergio Davis perform, you can catch his show tomorrow night at the Whiskey for The Beverly McDowell Christmas Blues Party. Doors open at 7pm.

Condoleezza Rice, would have been the first african american president. obama is not.

I think the term African-American is highly over used anyway. You either one or the other, most Blacks have never been to Africa, and have no legal Citizenship there so why use the term? My parents are German, my Father was born there, and he don’t call himself a German-American because that’s not what he is. I’m an AMERICAN pure and simple wink !!!!!!!

i have nothing against him because he is black. i am just saying we should acknowledge he is white also! he is a true example of what America is. &  how many differant nationalities are represented in our nation. also the majority of us have more than one nationality in us. thats all. i am not racist by no means! & you joel40 are just one of those people when someone acknowledges a persons color they are automatically racist. get over yourself.

glamblitz, there is no denying he is the first “African American"President of the U.S. .His father is African and his mother is American, therefore he IS AFRICAN-AMERICAN, do you need someone to spell it out even more??
The only reason it seems that you’re posting is that you’re bothered by his blackness. It’s the first thing anyone sees. There is no other president in the history of our country who shares his resemblance.
Why do you bigots have to ruin everything. When are y’all going to digest the fact that our president IS black! Wake up it’s 2009!
This is such a great story, I’m proud that a southern soul artist from Mobile will be apart of this historic occasion. AWESOME!

why do they say he is african american? he is actually multiracial or biracial! in other words he has just as much white in him as black!
