The bad economy claims another Mobile business and nearly 200 employees.

Armstrong World Industries, which designs and manufactures floors, ceilings and cabinets, will close its Baker Street plant on May 8. All 172 employees will be laid off.

A spokesperson in the company's corporate office says employees were notified yesterday. Severance packages are being offered to salaried employees. The company is negotiating severance packages for hourly workers.

Armstrong operates 36 plants in 10 countries and has approximately 12,200 employees worldwide.
