In 1987 she became the first female firefighter in the city of Mobile. 22 years later, LeAnn Tacon has become Mobile's first District Fire Chief. Previously a Captain, Tacon is one of four Mobile Fire Rescue Department firefighters being promoted today. Firemedic-Driver Mack Weaver III is being promoted to Captain. Firefighters Richard McMillan and Adrien Cordero are being promoted to Firefighter-Driver.MFRD Public Information Officer Steve Huffman says during her career, Tacon has served as a Training Officer and Public Relations Officer and is also Search Team Manager for the MFRD's Urban Search and Rescue Team. Tacon is the only female ever elected to the Executive Board of the Mobile Firefighters Association Local 1349, serving as its Vice-President and President.
