Some local drivers were practically swallowed up by a Mobile County road this morning. Two sections of Old Pascagoula Road in Irvington were literally washed away.

Drivers couldn't see the cracks in the asphalt because of the blinding rain, and they fell into the culvert. At least one vehicle was totalled. Another driver also damaged his vehicle on a separate section of Old Pascagoula Road. Airbags deployed in the vehicles, but luckily no one was injured.

Road engineers will inspect the road this weekend, and repairs will begin as soon as possible.
