The U.S. Justice Department has cleared a Mobile County Sheriff's Deputy of any wrongdoing in the shooting death of a teenager.

The Justice Department says Sgt. Paul Burch did nothing wrong when he shot and killed 18-year-old Robert Lucas in the Happy Hill community in November of last year. The Sheriff's Office says Lucas pointed a gun at Burch while running away. Burch shot him four times.

A grand jury cleared Burch back in April.

cianla, first off,the officer may have shot the fourth round before the boy fell, or he’d have shot five or maybe six times. he had no way of knowing that he even hit the boy untill he fell. and as long as the boy had the gun,and was pointing it at him, he was a threat not only to the officer, but any one in the area, including residents in their homes and kids in the street.put the blame where the blame belongs,on the criminal. don’t defend criminals or criminal behavior. and just so ya know, if it had been proven that the policeman had shot him without reason,i’d be yelling even louder than you.

there’s a lot that hasn’t been said here too.. was the boy a felon?that would put a whole different light on him even possesing a gun.also,if he’s willing to even consider pointing a gun at a policeman, then, what chance would you or i have?as far as the family, they had to know he was up to nogood. if they truely loved him, then, they should have stepped in way before it came to this.at some point you have to admit to yourself that your kid is no good and headed for an early grave with their lifestyle.want to feel sorry for someone, feel for the officer that had to shoot him.i feel sorry for him,and i thank him too,and I thank God it wasn’t him that was killed.

Maybe he didn’t stop with the first three bullets?

Why did this Deputy shot this boy 4 times? He was running away. I understand that he should have never pointed a gun at the officer, but the officer did not have to shot a running boy 4 times.

Yeah, I guess if someone was shooting at me I’d have to shoot back myself. Sad his life had to end so soon when it was really just beginning! My heart goes out to him and his family.  Wish he could have used better judgement though.
