People drink and drive any day of the week, month or year. True there are more on said holidays such as Memorial Day, New Years, and the 4th of July, and those are the days that they crack down the most. They have to report when and where they are having these checkpoints because they have to let the people know what the checkpoint is being performed for. Like I stated before when most see that there is going to be checkpoint that day or evening than most are likely to make sure they have all their paperwork are buckled up and are not driving impaired. I know that when I first started driving that on major holidays I would make sure that I did have all of my updated papers such as insurance and tag, made sure I had my drivers license and most importantly made sure that everyone that I and everyone else that rode with me buckled up. I also made sure to keep an eye on my speed and what the speed limit was, because I knew if I was to get a ticket that A. my car would get taken away from my parents, B. I would have to pay for the ticket, and C. If I made the insurance go up my parents would either drop me off their policy or make me pay for my portion plus the difference. After having to pay all of that I would of had to get another job which would completely take away any free time I did have. With all of that together that was enough for me to make sure that I was driving safely.

It’s a better way to raise cash than another friggin’ tax.

This should be done in all of the precincts that have public housing neighborhoods. This is because a lot of the residents do not have insurance and this would be a great help to verifying this in these areas. There was talk in the past about making these residents get ID-Cards, and people made mention that they did not have insurance when someone said that they would be required to prove that they had it. Precinct 1 would be a great place to start. JMO

how stupid to announce checkpoints.

Do you think many people drink and drive on Tuesday night that falls on the last day of the month? The jackpot $$ day for the city would be Saturday the 4th of July.

oh i see…. dang.

Quoting you here “You people are so quick to mention drunk drivers. They are writing tickets for tags, insurance, seatbelts…no drunk drivers!”  That is where I got that from, that may not have been the way you meant it but the way I read it was that the police are checking for tages, insurance and seatbelts and not checking for drunk drivers.  So that is where I got that from, sorry but I don’t make things up for the sake of an argument.  I am smarter than that.

the courts say they have to post that they will be doing it or it is entrapment. just BS. we have been posting about this for over a week now, here and on the forums. “I do see check points as Gestapo tactics and they should be used with extreme care.  If I roll up on a roadblock on a hot day and have to wait in a line of traffic for my turn, making me late I’m going to be pissed. When I get up to the LEO sweating like a pig (don’t have a cow you PC nut jobs, just a pun) I’m still going to ask him if I need to go get him something cold to drink, even if he writes me a ticket. You can feel anyway you want but can only act one way.”

uamags, I am not saying that at all. Where did you get that from…or are you just making things up to argue? I am saying that drunk drivers and criminals will not go through the checkpoints. If they see them, they will go another route.

Hate to break it to you but most criminals are not bright enough to check the daily news and websites to see if and where there are going to be checkpoints. That is the reason they are criminals. Because they were not bright enough in the first place to make the wise decision to stay out of trouble. However, I bet by posting that there is going to be a checkpoint or checkpoints that night that many will buckle up, drive the speed limit, make sure they have all their papers in the glove compartment( where they should be in the first place) and most importantly not drink before getting behind the wheel. When there are checkpoints and an officer stops a car were the individual does not have their drivers license or other paper work yes they are going to write a ticket. They can not say, “hey at least you are not driving drunk or have drugs so I will let you slide.” They have to write tickets to each and every person that is not following the rules of the road. If they did not write tickets to those people and just wrote tickets to the “bigger” things such as alcohol and drugs than that would come up as an issue too. So frankly I think that it is better for them to write the tickets to each and every person that way there is no discrimination. You have to remember these are “safety” checkpoints so the tickets that they are writing are what they checkpoints are mainly for. It is a huge positive if they are able to get a few people with warrants or impaired drivers off of the road.
