Some Mobile County schools are dealing with cases of the Swine Flu.

School health officials made the announcement this afternoon. On Monday, face masks and hand sanitizer will be distributed throughout area schools to those with flu like symptoms
Parents are being asked to keep their children home if they start showing signs of the virus.

"Most of the time children, especially, will transmit the virus 2 days before they get sick and 2 days after they start showing symptoms,"Said Dr. Wanda Hannon with the Mobile County School System.

The school system is putting together a list of schools affected by the Swine Flu. They plan to distribute the list next week.

Yeah. I am on the same page as you. I am not going to take my chances with this one. I do notice that it keeps getting closer and closer. All it takes is a couple of cases and have those individuals go to an event with multiple people, and well you get the picture.

The pediatricians office does not know yet whether they will have that particular flu shot. Nor does the Health Department yet. I am NEVER sick, but I sure don’t want to get hit with this one. It has already been in the area I live, even with a church shutting down over the weekend because of several cases. But I am told by the doctor’s office,it is everywhere…

Yeah. My daughter got the flu shot last year. She had no kind of reaction to it. I did not get one though. I had always been one of those people that get sick like twice every 2 or 3 years. I guess when she goes for her next check up, which is October, he will explain it to me when she gets her yearly flu shot. The one she got last year worked wonders. She got some cold symptoms once, and it lasted less than 12 hours. I was amazed that she did not get sick because everyone else in the house besides me and her had gotten the cold or flu at one time or another.

I have called my kid’s pediatrician, but typically they start giving the flu shot in October, and the last “scare” we had,it started at age 5-6 months. I normally don’t take a flu shot (even though I am a health care provider) because the one time I did, I was sick as a dog for 4 days afterwards. BUT, this year MAY be different, because I am in contact with ALOT of people and this one scares me. From what I hear, 3000 in Alabama may die from it. Don’t want to be one of them, or the cause of someone else. smile

LOL. I hope not. Those are some of the few in my family I can rely on for wise advice and help with the little one. They know most of the tricks of the trade and are not stuck on, “what the book says”. They give me advice from their experience, which is much more helpful. You are right. This thing is going to continue to mutate and change. We just have to try and stay one step ahead, which is hard. My husband said they have had lectures in his job about this. They know that there is a chance that it could get bad. Now that could be not in our lifetime. However, it is better to be safe than sorry. However, living in fear from it is no good either. I just think there needs to be a good middle ground. You know were people are aware and know the precautions to take, but do not let it consume every aspect of there lives. I know a few people that if they had all the information on it, they would probably grab a shovel and start digging an underground bunker and not come out.

I got that information around here somewhere, lying amongst this mess on my desk, but in general it said the very young and health care providers would get the first of the vaccine. They seem to think a lot of us elderly folks might have a bit of immunity from it if we have had the chicken pox and some of those old vaccines decades ago,but I wouldn’t count on it since this strain can mutate at anytime.Don’t think they’re trying to get rid of old folks,do you?
  grin

Yeah. Age is a big factor in how your body will handle the virus if you are infected by it. Just because you get it does not necessarily mean you will die from it. However, since the symptoms are fairly close to the common cold or flu at first, many do not receive the medical attention that is needed early on in the virus. Young children and the elderly are more susceptible to the more fatal aspects of the virus. I know that me personally would not panic if my daughter was showing some signs of a cold or flu on a normal standard, but with the symptoms coinciding with the H1N1 it is better to be safe than sorry. Since I am a stay at home mom, she is mostly in my care and not around a lot of other children unless we go to the store or I take her to the park, but sometimes that is all it takes. However, it is impossible to keep a little one in a bubble. So the best I can do is take the precautions and keep a close eye on her and her health. Does anyone know what the age range, if there is one, is for the vaccine that they are coming out with?

Swine flu -  Reason number: 3,471 why America needs to blow up Mexico.

P.S.  I wouldn’t panic but to be fore warned is to be better able to manage the situation better to keep it from getting out of hand.Protect our babies first!

The last report I saw was that close to 500 had died so far in the states and this is not even in the flu season. This virus has all the potential to mutate into an even deadlier form before the flu season is in full swing.I see people using masks, but unless they are capable of stopping a particle of .3 micron or less they wouldn’t be of much help, and those are kind of hard to come by off the shelf. Some places have them but usually most are sold to hospitals and clean rooms.
