Election day has come and gone, and, perhaps, the heated debate over annexation can now be put to rest. Much controversy led up to the vote, with both sides hurling accusations at one another. In the end, the people spoke and the results were mixed.

Four areas placed their vote: Moffett, Theodore, Windmill Place, and the Dominion/Wellington area.

A solid win for annexation in Theodore and Windmill Place: Theodore residents were 72% in favor of annexation. 65% of voters in Windmill Place supported the proposal.

Those in the Moffet and Dominion/Wellington area disagreed, however. Voters in both areas said no to the City of Mobile's invitation. Moffett area residents opposed the measure at a rate of 57%, while their neighbors in Dominion/Wellington were 65% opposed.

In the end, the City of Mobile will welcome-in two more communities. On the other hand, two others said thanks, but no thanks, and chose to remain a part of the County.

I just don’t understand how this has happened! Why didn’t we have a vote? Now we have to pay higher sales tax etc. just so some people in Theodore can have free garbage service!! This is against our constitutional rights.Mayor Jones needs to be held accountable and make sure that our children in the schools do not suffer the consequences. Good point,JudyH!!

OK—something that hasn’t come up yet and NEEDS to be addresses immediately before it’s all buried in the “post-annexation”.  IS Sam Jones and the City of Mobile going to give the Mobile County Public School System the 0.5% retail sales tax BACK that this annexation will take away in the Tillmans Corner/Theodore area?

I am a member of the vol fire dept and we deeply hurt by this vote, we loved what we did for the communty and now its like iv been robed part of me is now lost,I didnt do it for money prestige or anything part of my family thought i was crazy, and were not sure what we are going to do but i dont want to help sam jones make this work, the city is 66 policeman short before the election and they are short atlest 3 fire trucks and only have 2 mechanics that service all the fire trucks,so i hope free garbage is wort it,i pay my on garbage and now i get to pay higher taxes,my son is in the army fighting for what sam jones took away from us (THE RIGHT TO VOTE)free is never free my son is proof to me.

I just want to say THANK YOU! to the people who prevented Mayor Jones from getting his hands on Semmes industry. You ROCK!

What a biased report! lol

The citizens of Theodore decided?  454 people living in a very small demographically targeted area in Theodore decided the future of both Theodore and Tillman’s Corner.  About 7,000 people live in what used to be Theodore and another 16,000 live in Tillman’s Corner.

How can WKRG say the citizens decided?

coop, unsure if I’m correct but the Theodore Volunteer Fire Dept’s stations lie just outside of the newly annexed area according to the annexation maps.  Pretty sure they will still be around.

Congrats Sam and the city council,

You have gotten your hands on the Theodore/ Tillman’s Corner area. Now you legally have all that money. The citizens who voted for this are extremely ignorant. I know the vote would have been different if the election would not have excluded many of Theodore’s residences. I pray citizens with funds to bring a law suite against the election.

The only thing the citizens will receive is free trash service. They had good fire and police protection. Lord knows I have seen Mobile in the Theodore area practically every day. Now you get to pay for what you had for free.

I put my full trust in the volunteers of the Theodore Fire Department. I would like to thank the Theodore Fire Department for your contribution to the area. You will be missed. I hope the citizens like waiting 15 minutes for Mobile Fire.

I think the Mobile County Commission should just roll over and let Mobile run the entire county.
