Mobile County Health Department offers mosquito minnowsIn an effort to help control the mosquito population, the Mobile County Health Department will distribute free minnows (Gambusia affinis), which feed on mosquito larvae, from 3 p.m. to 4:15 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, until further notice at its Vector Control compound, 750 Congress St.
The minnows can be placed in ornamental pools, ponds and animal watering troughs. People can also get these minnows from local streams, ponds and other fresh water sources.
Anyone wanting to get minnows from the Health Department should bring a container. For more information, call 690-8124.
