Danny Budd recalls life six years ago when he was addicted and strung out on meth, "You know it took a hundred-dollar bill a day just to get by, and that was just not to be in withdrawals, just to feel like you're almost human."

For thirty years Budd drank alcohol, popped pills, and smoked crack. But, with cystal meth, all it took, was that first hit."It was a feeling of invincibility. I was like, you know, I gotta get out of this, cause this is not going to be good at the end...and I crinkled the aluminum foil up and...I threw it in the trash can. The very next day, I was in the trash can digging it out"

Budd fell further into the meth trap. So desperate for his next fix, he planned to rob an elderly couple.

"I'd done a lot of things in those years, but home invasion wasn't one of them. When I thought about that the next morning it troubled me greatly".

He considered suicide. But instead reached out to his family for help. They took him to The Mission of Hope, a drug treatment facility for men. "I came through the Mission of Hope 6 years ago, the third day I was here, I surrendered my life to Jesus Christ, and he redeemed me from those things. God took all those things away from me while I was here in the program, and I've never gone back to any of it".

Brother Budd, now a licensed preacher, is on the staff at The Mission of Hope.

On forty acres in Mobile County drug and alcohol addicts live off the land, growing their own food, raising hogs, and learning trades by re-furbishing donated items.

Now, blessed with a wife and two beautiful children, it's Brother Budd's prayer..the men who come to the mission find what many of them had lost..."hope".

"Please, if you feel like your life is almost over today, at 41, I thought my life was over, and it has been on a rocket ride ever since I came through the Misson of Hope. Look at yourself in the mirror, look at your money, look at the things you had that you no longer do, and call somebody for help."

The Mission of Hope relies on donations. It costs the Mission of Hope nearly thirty dollars a day per man to provide the service free of charge.

Sassy I’m praying for your loved one.  As I have someone very very very close to me that has several addictions if I could just get him to admit to them. I’ve offered help, but its come to tearing us apart I can’t live with it nomore. REFUSE TO! But, I can still hope and pray that he will find the courage from god to overcome this and see what he’s turning into..and what he’s losing most important..

It’s a proven fact, and an expected one, I am told, that the majority of those who get clean will relapse… maybe several times…no matter how much they might want to stay clean.

I’ll be the first person to tell you I don’t get that…just p.u.t. i.t. d.o.w.n. !!!

But, even tho I don’t get it….I know it’s true…living in the midst of a relapse right now, by someone I love very much, who “I KNOW” beyond a shadow of a doubt, wants to be clean…

I pray everyday that today will be the day she wants it bad enough to stop…I pray everyday that God will touch her life, and heal her….take away the demon in her life that is meth.

Absolutely.  A person must want to make the change.  Meth is the worst.  I see the effects it has on people’s lives every day.  It is sad, extremely sad.  Meth is very addictive.  The first hit is all it takes and that’s it, you’re hooked.  Stay away from meth and anyone who uses it.  It will kill you, but not before destroying you and your loved ones.

This is very encouraging for people who are going through what this man has.  But, you must be willing to make a change and want it for yourself not others…I know some people that need to go to this place, but when you offer help and they ignore it what more can you do.  Praying for all of those in need!
