A surveillance camera was rolling and caught a meth lab explosion at a local motel.

Bayou La Batre Police have released surveillance video of the blast from Monday afternoon.

In the video, you can see two innocent bystanders down the hallway of the Bayou La Batre Inn and Suites. After a few seconds, you'll see the window and wall of room # 110 blow some 25 feet into the parking lot.

After the blast, police say the three people in the room took off. We're told that Carlton Parmer has burns on 35% of his body. His wife Brandy and their friend Dereck Robinson are also said to be involved. This trio is being charged with manufacturing a controlled substance, criminal mischief and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Corporal Jason Edwards with Bayou Police says this is a first for the city. "I've seen videos of meth lab explosions but this is Bayou La Batre's first exploding meth lab. It's very scary. As a police or as a citizen, just to know that it's that close It's very scary."

Novice chemists are dangerous and the drug war produces more and more of them. Just like the thousands of moonshiner accidents during prohibition.

Sam, if it’s not dangerous…. why is is costing $5K and up to clean up contaminated homes?

Meth is dangerous but it is not the demon drug that the media makes it out to be. It is just an amphetamine. In fact it is prescribed for ADHD under the pharmaceutical name Desoxyn. Just like ritalin, adderal etc. Criminalizing drug abuse is bad for everyone. You could make a three strikes rule in the drug courts and force people into treatment. That would make alot more sense then locking them up. But there is no question the current system is broken beyond repair.

Samhell it is called you make your bed now sleep in it ,we were taught that you paid consequinces for your play.Thank God you are not in some 3rd world countries They have the death penalty for stuff like you are preaching about.

Completely agree.  Prison is a horrible solution to drug addiction.  Even thought it sobers them up, statistically, most drug addicts go right back when they get out.  Actually, most end up worse off than they started.  Personally, I don’t think it should be a crime to consume any substance as long as you don’t hurt anyone else.  You’re stepping over the line when you risk someone else’s life to manufacture your drug of choice.  It’s not a crime to drown your sorrows in donuts, but it’s a crime to run red lights on your way to Krispy Kreme.  You’re right that the illegality of meth is what pushes people to cook it in motel rooms or in a back room of their house near where their baby sleeps. But it seems ridiculous to legalize and regulate a substance that is very, very likely to ruin the users life.  I don’t have the solution, but I really don’t think that saying that meth is not dangerous is anywhere close.

lovepeace If you want to reach out to people who do meth. The worst thing you can do is lock them up. Prison tears apart families and ruins lives. You’re kept away from your family while your in. Leaving single parents to fend for themselves. Prisoners are routinely raped and abused. Kept with the general population of rapists and thugs. When they get out they can’t get a decent job. You can’t get a student loan. You can’t even vote. Where is the justice in that? You get busted for possession you could end up homeless. Keeping Meth illegal deters noone and hurts everyone.

As long as you have been nonstop you must have a pocket full of that stuff all ready had to have my nap.

Sounds like someone’s down a few brain cells right now lol. Don’t post when you’re stoned. Gives use a headache

15.9 million Americans aged 12 or older were current illicit drug users 2001 National Household Survey on Drug Abuse According.  The DOJ says in 2007 there are 936600 prisoners for violent or property crimes. So yes a majority are responsible citizens.

Sam, again, I get half of what you’re saying, but you’re in the wrong forum.  Most of us aren’t mad about responsible users who hide their habits and live productive lives.  They don’t belong in jail.  We’re upset about cracked-out meth addicts who cook up poisons in motel rooms.  It might not destroy every life that it touches, but it’s the drug most likely to turn you into a cracked-out deadbeat shell of a person who would rob your own mama.  It’s playing with fire.  I’ve seen people use it recreationally for a couple years before it consumed them, and I’ve seen people become unrecognizable within two months after taking it “for fun.”  I’ve also heard people claim to have used it sporadically for years and maintained their life, but they are the EXCEPTION.
