Burger Master on St. Stephens Road in Eight Mile had a kitchen fire on Thursday morning.Short URL: http://wkrg.com/a/18168/
Grease splattered from a meatloaf caused the fire. Unlike other kitchen fires, this is one the staff couldn't put out.
The blaze quickly spread through the 48 year old burger joint. All the employees and customers made it out safely.
Cynthia Autrey and the other employees considered the restaurant their second home. "We're all just mainly in shock. We haven't uh really sat down and talked to one another yet. We just let everybody chill out cool down for a minute. Everybody's heart is racing and brains popping. So we're really not thinking straight right now."
Clean up has already started at the restaurant. The owner says he has insurance and plans to rebuild.

A “Lott” Of Crime

Glad to hear the owner will rebuild. Anyone with any good memories at the Burger Master? It was the hangout after the Friday nite football games that is when we weren’t at the Gator drive in. Still today it is the hangout for “older folk”. Mom and Pop still love it there and they know everybody. The Burger Master was like family.
