Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Debra Mack announced her retirement from the Mobile FBI office last week. Since then, a source tells the News 5 Investigative Team that Mack and Mayor Jones were part of federal internal investigation that's two years in the making.
Our source says that Mack was reportedly offered to retire or be demoted to a field agent. Her retirement is effective at the end of August and she will receive full benefits. We're told that if one chooses the retirement route, their file is sealed.
So, we tried to ask Mayor Jones about the investigation.
Tiffany: "Were you questioned about the investigation into Debra Mack?"
Jones: "I can't tell you anything about Ms. Mack. Ask the F-B-I."
Tiffany: "Did you know you were part of a federal investigation?"
Jones: "I don't know anything about that and you don't either."
Tiffany: "You don't know if you were part of a federal investigation?"
Jones: "I do not. I do not."
Tiffany: "And you won't tell us what your relationship is with her?"
Jones walked to the elevator at Government Plaza and wouldn't answer anymore questions.
Mack has been working in Washington D.C. for the past month and will stay there until she retires. Her office says she will stay in the Port City after retirement.
We have been directed to the D.C. law firm of Swick and Shapiro for comment but they won't talk to us either.
Stay tuned for more updates.
