One of the symbols of summer is closing up shop for the season. Mobile's Market on the Square held its last Saturday morning gathering today, Saturday, July 25, 2009. The seasonal event brings farmers, bakers, crafters and other outdoor friendly merchants to Cathedral Square. Organizers say they've been able to expand it this year to include both the north and south sides of the square. They say they're pleased by how it's grown.“I think more people hearing about it, word of mouth and more vendors, we have boiled peanuts, farmers, seafood people,” says assistant manager of Neighborhood and Community Services for the City of Mobile Chris Barraza. She says they're happy to bring live music and entertainment to the square with the stuff to buy. The market starts its fall season in October.
