SEMMES, Alabama - Update 9/13/09 3:40 PM
Alabama State Troopers have released the name of a man found dead along Moffett Road Saturday night. Authorities say the victim's name is Richard Emmons. His parents say the 31-year-old Grand Bay man had been living in Wilmer. State Troopers are continuing their investigation into the death. A spokesman says Emmons was hit by a passing car Saturday. The spokesman says he was probably hit by a General Motors Pickup or SUV. His body was found by someone walking along Moffett in Semmes near the Citgo gas station. They still haven't found the driver. If anyone has any information they're asked to call Alabama State Troopers at 251-660-2300.

The lowlife driver didn’t have the human decency to stop and even see if the man needed attention.

Of course, he/she probably had a suspended license, no insurance, and the everpresent baggie of crack.

Hopefully, if he takes his vehicle to a local body shop they will notify the police. Otherwise we might have to wait for remorse from the driver to turn himself in (not likely). Maybe one his friends or family will turn him him.

RIP Richard! To Richard’s family, I am so sorry for your loss. I was a really good friend of Richard’s and this is still a shock to me. I can’t believe that this could happen to Richard. Rest in Peace Richard. We will all miss you!

Semmes has been the crime spot of the county this weekend, with the neighborhood watch set up to fight graffiti and ATV riders on the Ponderosa, and now a body on the roadside. Could yet another meth lab explosion be next?

Gee, ccm-passing gas on the side? I think they make some pills for that.lol That part of Moffett is considered Fairview and not Semmes. If you noticed their smile, they probably didn’t have many teeth! And you probably wouldn’t want what they were offering anyway. Kind of like out by Snuffy’s in Wilmer-used to be known as a speed trap-now it’s crack-ville(and I don’t mean because there are plumbers!) Not likely I would run you down on 98 anyway,as I try to avoid it.

yeah i still pass gas on the side and the prius gets me there and back on a spoonful of gas. u used to see a LOT of people walking on moffet road there, seemed to be after 11 at night right by that gas station across the street form that place that has the chili peppers on its sign, i think they make baseball caps. they were so friendly, always waving and smiling. mostly girls though. i was always tireded and close to home so i never was able to stop and see what they wanted. moslty i go through there during the day now.
