Mobile firefighters rescued a man from the balcony of his burning mansion.

Steve Huffman, a spokesman for Mobile Fire-Rescue, tells news 5 the fire started about 8 a.m. Wednesday on the second floor balcony of the home on Government at Broad Street. The fire extended to attic and through the roof.

Ray Isbell said he was in the shower when the fire started.

Huffman says the fire caused $750,000 in damage. But firefighters managed to save most of the antiques and art work. The cause is under investigation.

Isbell said he and his brother have been restoring the house for the last 15 years and that it's full of Mobile history.

I’m glad he was safe but sorry to hear about the Mobile History that was lost in his collection.
