The crash happened just before 7 o'clock Wednesday night. 52-year-old John Brandell of Elberta was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pick-up truck, 30-year-old James Brumbelow of Pensacola, has not been charged. The accident remains under investigation.

I wasnt passing negative judgement upon the man riding the bike, I was only speaking the truth of what was said and seen at the sight of the accident.  It is truly sad that a community who loved this man so much who had been struck numerous times on the same road would allow him to continue to ride a bicycle on such a populated highway…...could no one in that community offer him a ride home?  Dont slander the driver because the community didnt come together when they should have.

And further more, the facts as I repeated was not only spoken by his family, and residents of the community but by the emergency personnel as well.

Truely, it is sad,  but the man on the bicycle is not suffering now,BUT the driver of the truck will suffer for the rest of his life.  May God bless everyone involved.

Mrs.PJB

I am very sorry about the gentleman who passed and his family, but you have to understand the young man who hit him has to live with this the rest of his life…...he is a very loving husband and father of 2.  He does not deserve the bad things that are being said about him…...May God be with those who have said all the negitive things about my son-in-law…...

I only have these words for such a wonderful and caring man, it is a great loss for all that knew him and for those who will never have the chance to meet him now…

WORDS FOR JOHN “PETIE BRANDELL
God saw you were getting tired,
And a cure was not to be,
So he put his arm around you
And whispered, “Come to Me.”
With tearful eyes we watched you,
And saw you pass away.
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard-working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.

My comment is to the person who said that we should not pass judgement.  I feel like you are passing judgement when you said what you said.  I was also at the scene and the things you are saying is not true.  YOU SHOULD GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT BEFORE COMING ON HERE SLANDERING A HANDICAPPED MAN THAT IS NOW GONE FOREVER.  He was very loved and will be truely missed by his family and the community.

The man that was killed has almost been hit several times for weaving towards passing vehicles. He should have never been riding his bike on a busy highway. He will be greatly missed. The driver of the truck and The man changed many lives, but dont blame the driver of the truck. My prayer are with all involved.
This was nothing more than a terrible accident.

well I got a ticket for not wearing a seat belt on 3/9/08.  They did me a favor.  I broke the rules coming down the highway with 65mph of sheer metal coming toward me and I deserved it for breaking the law.  Was he wearing a seat belt…....

The man that was killed was not only was a member of the community, but was also friends of the most everyone in elberta. the really sad part was the fact that he was mentally handicapped and never hurt anyone. The person that caused this death will never know how many lives he has changed forever. mr. brandell will be missed by all that knew him.

That is so sad!! I thought we were suppose to share the highway with cyclists??
