Mobile police arrested a man they say lied about being robbed.

Justin Collier called 911 Saturday morning and said he was robbed at the Family Inn at 900 West I-65 Service Road. He gave police a description of the suspect and the suspect's vehicle.

Police stopped a vehicle matching the description and took the driver in for questioning. Police determined the driver was Collier's crack dealer. The two got into a fight at the Family Inn. Collier pointed his gun at the dealer who then took the gun from him and left.

Collier was arrested for filing a false police report.

“When people call 911 and report a crime that is in fact a false claim, our officers waste valuable time and resources needlessly investigating details which are untrue; therefore diverting their time away from true crime," said Chief Phillip Garrett. "I want to make it clear that filing a false claim is a crime and it will not be tolerated by the Mobile Police Department.”

This should be on that Dumbest Criminal show.

Never point a gun at someone unless you are fully prepared to kill them.

The report isn’t false just because he takes his 5th amendment right not to incriminate himself and leaves out the part about the guy being his dealer!!

What did we learn today?

It is OK to steal from someone who is BUYING crack!

okay this is confusing!

our officers waste valuable time and resources needlessly investigating details which are untrue; therefore diverting their time away from true crime,” said Chief Phillip Garrett====?????? what could save more time and resources, than the crackheads ratting themselfs out?? you got a gun, crack dealer and crack user in one phone call you dip stick!!!

This cannot be correct. There must something more to this story. I can’t believe there was only one crime committed.

Chief Phillip Garrett is an idiot. Dealing crack is not a crime? Assault with a gun is not a crime. Stealing a gun is not a crime. When engaged in a crime you cannot be a victim of a crime? So if i go rob and beat a crack dealer I can keep his money and gun without a crime worth calling Chief Phillip Garrett? Ok people you heard the guy. You can go after crack dealers and if they call the police they will charge the crack dealer with a crime not you.

Ok.  I’m a little confused.  Someone took something that belonged to someone else.  I thought that was theft.

I understand that we’re talking about a crack-dealer taking a gun that a *customer* pointed at him.  But, I don’t see reporting that could be considered filing a false claim.

Does that mean that if I pick up my purse like I’m going to hit my daughter’s cheerleading coach with it, she has the right to grab it and leave, and I can’t file a report without getting arrested?

Crack-dealer - ok.  Gun waver and drug buyer - ok.  Not exactly upstanding citizens.  I’ll give you that.  But taking something that doesn’t belong to you is theft.

And, I guess this drug-dealer has the cops permission to add a new gun to his collection?

Confusing message they’re getting across!
