The man charged with murder for the shooting death of a Mobile police officer says he's sorry.

According to police, 18-year-old Richard Hollingsworth shot Officer Brandon Sigler Tuesday night in the parking lot of the Tyler Ridge Apartments on Thomas Road in West Mobile.

Hollingsworth says he showed up at the complex to protect his girlfriend.

"My girlfriend had been beaten by a couple of other girls out at that apartment complex earlier that evening," Hollingsworth said."Guy told us to leave with a gun on his hip. I got really scared. I pulled out a pistol and I shot him."

Hollingsworth says he didn't know Sigler was a police officer because he wasn't wearing a badge. "I'm so sorry. I'll never be able to say it enough."

Mobile police are transporting Hollingsworth to the Baldwin County Jail in Bay Minette because Sigler's mother works at Mobile Metro Jail.

Hollingsworth had one thing to say as he was put into the back of a police car. "Ya'll pray for me."

jb09, prey on but I hope they throw the book at your friend. He knew he was not just anyone walking up. What thug do you know carries his gun in a holster???????????

ROLLTIDER, THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU HIT IT ON THE HEAD OF THE NAIL!!!!!!!!

jb09—your “joey” was not in the wrong place at the wrong time.  that is a load.  He CHOSE to go there with a gun.  He chose to shoot Ofc. Sigler.  He made those decisions and now a great man is gone forever.  Many lives have been severely altered because of his poor decision making skills.  I wish he would have never come back to Mobile.  Our city has lost a great Man, Officer, Son, Brother and Fiance because of your “Joey’s” fascination with the crypts, Tookie and his wannabe thug way of life.  Loser.

jb09. If you think that a cold blooded murderer is a good person, maybe you need to seek treatment.

You are right minimay-birds of feather. How anyone could call point blank, gunning down a man with a holstered gun, a “MISTAKE,” shows their character. A “mistake” is hitting the dog that runs under your tire-not ambushing a man.

Really? Prayer is not going to help this creep. You know God has a better judge of character than anyone. So all of you “friends” of “joey’s” can keep defending him all you want, but when that day comes for him and you to get judged and all of us, well lets just say “Bird’s of a feather, flock together”.

I think some “friends” are going to have the wind knocked out of their silly little sails when this goes to trial….It just might make you realize that YOU are not a good judge of character, unless of course you are of the SAME character.

I WILL BE PRAYING FOR JOEY!
i do not care what all you low lives have to say about this because apparently you do not have anything to do but sit here and judge a kid who made a terrible mistake..WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES, some just more worse than others. I went to school with Joey for a few years in birmingham and he is genuinely a good kid who just so happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. He has a troubled past and to try and escape that he moved down to mobile ,but, wherever he turned he could not escape it as hard as he tried. He was a great singer! He absolutely lovessss music and used that to try and get him on the right path but somehow his past always caught up with him.I ASSURE YOU that that is NOT what he wanted! so next time that all of you want to judge a book by its cover try opening up the book up and seeing what is inside for a change!

Contrary to popular opinion, I don’t think parents are always to blame. Not all thugs come from bad families. Kids will defy authority and make decisions that parents can do nothing to control. BUT-kids also have the choice to make good decisions. From the moment this scum left his house, he made decisions-each and every one of them INTENTIONAL. Did someone force him to pack a stolen gun? Did someone force him to carry weed? Did someone force him to take the law into his own hands to go “settle” an already settled chick fight? Did someone force him to pull that gun on Officer Sigler and murder him? Did someone force him to leave the scene? Did someone force him to run from the cops when they were in pursuit? No, these were HIS choices, and they were 100% INTENTIONAL.

I hope you kids will wipe him(and those like him) off your friend list-otherwise you can pick out your casket and save your parents the grief-if this is what you run with. It’s a matter of time…not IF, but WHEN.

Not intentional? Then why bring a gun to break up a girlie fight? A girlie fight that was already OVER. He went looking for trouble. Not intentional? Then why would you fire point blank on someone who didn’t even have a gun in their hand? Officer Sigler didn’t even have the chance to DEFEND himself, because he was INTENTIONALLY mowed down by this thug. jhore-MPD get take home cars, there would have been one at the complex, as well as all the residents would know that there was a cop, acting as security living there.

I shudder to think what goes on in the life of people who claim to be his friends. Really, ya’ll need to re-evaluate who you call a friend. I realize that you are at an age where your parents can’t control you, you make your own choices, and probably do ALOT of things your parents don’t know about. But you better be SERIOUSLY considering WHAT you do, and with whom you do it. You are not infallible. You are not immune to death or jail. It could be you, next time.
