The man who was shot three times by a Mobile police officer when he grabbed the officer's taser is out of the hospital and behind bars.

Ricky Lett Jr was transported from USA Medical Center to police headquarters on Government Boulevard where he was booked.

On his way to Metro Jail, Lett, who was wearing a colostomy bag shouted at reporters, "I ain't grab no officer's taser."

When asked why the officer shot him, Lett said "Cause he was in the wrong. I just ran."

According to the District Attorney's Office, Officer Christopher Moye stopped Lett July 2nd on Government across from the Raceway gas station. Lett got out and ran into the wooded area behind Raceway. During the foot chase, Moye fired his taser, but only one prong stuck in Lett. District Attorney John Tyson Jr. says Lett then pulled the prong out, grabbed the taser and pointed it at Moye who shot Lett three times.

Moye is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Lett was still wearing his hospital gown when he took his booking photo. He's charged with assault, identity theft and obstructing justice.

the colostomy bag is probably just a temporary thing until he heals.During NAM I had a few friends that had to wear them for a while and some that had to use them for the rest of their lives. I’m usually pro law enforcement on most matters but I’ve never liked check points for some reason. It seems an intrusion to me ,I guess, but never have had any problems during one.If there is some reason to pull someone over, then I think everything should be checked, but stopping traffic and checking everyone seems to be an infringement on freedom of some kind.No doubt it helps to get some off the road that need to be removed but to me it seems to be casting too wide a net.A good spot to check would be outside of these clubs where most of the drinking goes on.I guess it’s just a question of how much freedom are you willing to give up to have these check points.Da-ned if you do,and da-ned if you don’t.

he ran because he didn’t want to deal with the poop he was in and now he is wearing a bag to poop in. now that’s irony and a good to serve the community.

lol.  “ocifer dun pull me over, i betta run!”

Sorry, but I do consider those safety checkpoints. It is for mine, and every other motorists safety that you are driving with a license, registration and insurance. I can tell you from experience, it is the law abiding citizens, that ultimately get screwed, when someone hits you who has no insurance and no DL. If you have a revoked license it is for a very good reason.

Doug, Anytime you are stopped by the police whether it be a safety checkpoint or stopped for speeding you are required to show your driver’s license, proof of insurance, and registration. Common sense. That is why most always have all three in a accessible area so if they are pulled over they can already have it ready without digging all over for it. LE really does not like when they have to dig all through the vehicle to find it because who knows what they can pull out from in the car. Why no matter what the topic is you bring up check points I have no idea. Anything you have to say about them you have already said multiple times.

Sure “safety checkpoints” have not been ruled unconstitutional. Checkpoints like what we have in mobile where you are required to produce papers are unconstitutional.

You have yet to prove that safety checkpoints are deemed unconstitutional. The previous sites you listed had nothing to do with safety checkpoints, when in fact it has been said that SAFETY checkpoints are constitutional.

“colostomy bag” that tells me he has a hole with a bag to poop out of right where your seat belt goes across. i think you have a medical reason not to wear you seat belt.

I wouldn’t doubt that they would. They are already being unconstitutional and going against supreme court rulings bu having the checkpoints in the first place.

And he couldn’t buckle himself up? Gee, even my 5 year old can do that! Put on the big kid pants. As to the safety checkpoints, are they ticketing people in the back without a seat belt, or just the driver and front seat passenger?
